Integrated Body: Diaphragms, Domes, and Bandhas - Studio Hargett Location
Description
The body’s diaphragms are a series of structural and energetic domes that support us from the sole of the foot to the top of the head. Imagine beautiful poses supported naturally by your breath, and a friendly relationship with gravity. The body’s domes include the arches of the feet, the pelvic floor, the diaphragm, the thoracic inlet, the palate, the cranium, armpits and hands. When we bring the diaphragms in right relationship with gravity and levity, we experience a buoyant uplift that is spoken of as "bandhas" in yoga. Bandha means lock or gate. And similar to the locks of the canals in Amsterdam or Venice, we use the bandhas to contain, build, and release the flow of energy in the body.
In this workshop, we will study each of the diaphragms, experience the flow of gravity and levity that they offer our poses, and relate them to each of the three major yogic bandhas. We will end with maha mudra, pranayama, and meditation bringing us into a receptive, relaxed, alert, and responsive state.
These
workshops will run consecutively from 10:00am to 7:00pm, with short breaks
between plus a one-hour break for lunch.
